Hustings for Bath Chamber of Commerce at the Rec last night. A very effective round table format which led to open discussion. Brexit dominated again with many questions rooted in the ongoing uncertainty which can only end by progressing the deal through its final stages. The only other options lead to yet more confusion and delay. People rightly want to address other important matters such as the environment, housing, policing, education and the NHS.
We did get some other questions. I drew on my experience as a former business owner in BANES & councillor to answer questions concerning local people in Bath. What we want from a Bath-first MP.
Many questions were around the economy and funding for public services and housing. It was clear at the hustings that only the Conservatives understand business and wealth creation: using the economy to fund public services. The other two parties are proposing tax hikes which can only damage the economy which is only now recovering after the shattered state it was left in by the last Labour government.
Without a strong economy we cannot generate the money we need to fund the public services we rightly want.
