James Wright, a 31-year-old former Combe Down resident, has been selected as the prospective Conservative Party candidate for the Bath constituency for the upcoming general election.
James grew up in Combe Down and lived in Monkton Combe after he married. He is the UK Director for an agricultural technology company, now employing 32 staff across Somerset, where he now lives with his wife, Isobel, and their two children.
He has previously served as District Councillor and Council Cabinet member, responsible for the Environment.
James said: “It is an incredible honour to be selected as the Conservative Party candidate for the City where I grew up. I am getting out there, on the doorstep and the high street, listening to local people and looking for ways to help them with their priorities. Bath deserves a champion who will stand up for its interests.
“I believe in strong but fair borders, in the power of private enterprise, and in common-sense family values. As an entrepreneur and business owner, I know the challenges and opportunities that others like me face here in Bath. As a councillor, I secured significant investment into my local town centre with new car parking and electric vehicle charging. I also led a team which secured funding to create hundreds of acres of new habitat and food production on the edge of urban areas. I can use this experience to support all our local residents and businesses alike to make this beautiful part of the West Country an even better place to live and work.”
James is already receiving pleas from local people to hold the Liberal Democrat BathNES council to account as it rolls out policies such things as the controversial Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, and challenge them with their spending on vanity projects like the £7.4m ‘Ring of Steel’ which then forces them to cut funding for other essential areas or ultimately increase Council Tax.
Martin Grixoni, Chairman of the Bath Conservative Association, said when James was selected as candidate:
“James is a strong campaigner who knows Bath well. As a technology entrepreneur, former councillor and family man, he brings a wide range of experience inside and outside of politics and is proving an outstanding asset to the constituency. His enthusiasm is winning us new members and support. James Wright has launched his own website, and he welcomes residents contacting him about their concerns.”
